Course overview

Health and Social Care and Child Care workers are extremely vital to society, as they look after the well-being of both the young and the elderly. The need for qualified individuals in this rewarding and caring profession is growing and it is estimated that within the next 30 years the number of carers will increase by approximately 3.4 million. To work in this growing field, you will need to gain a wide range of skills and knowledge to help you understand how people develop and grow. Working in Social Care / Child Care offers the opportunity to have a flexible working life, and the opportunity to pursue a management role or run your own business.

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in a senior role with adults in health and social care environments. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures.

It has three pathways:

  Generic Health and Social Care

  Dementia

  Learning Disability

How is the course assessed?

It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by LVS Designs Training.

You will be taught using a range of teaching tools and techniques including lectures, role play activities, scenarios, group and pair work, assignments, presentations and work experience placements in industry.

Achieving this qualification

Must achieve 28 credits from Section 1 Mandatory units but 58 credits in total.

Section 2 – a minimum of 2 credits but a maximum of 7 credits, Section 3- A minimum of 23 credits.  The remaining credits can be from either section 2 or section 3.

Entry requirements

You will need English and Maths skills at Level 2. If you do not have evidence of your English and Maths levels you will be given an online English and Maths assessment after you submit your application. You may also be asked to complete a piece of free writing or a vocational assessment. If you meet the entry requirements you will then be offered an interview with a tutor to discuss the course.  There are no physical requirements. You should be at least 16 years old.
